STATEMENT OF CHRH NGOH OH MADE ON OCTOBER 20th, 1922:

I, Cheah Ngoh Oh, came to the Republic of China in the year 1918.

Owing to trouble suffored by Trio-tng Village, the native

plaon of my forefathers, in the fighting batwoan the North and the South, 26 mighbouring villages appointed me no Hondoan of these villages, and requested ma to maintain ponce and order in thewa village. The former Hai-chong District Magistrto, Sun Yu-tung, requested the Tu-chân, Shong-chang axl the Thoyin to sanction my appointment as 'Captain of the Guard band of the Bagtorn Section'. Sanction we accordingly granted; a soal was give to ma; and I was instructed to assume the most et mon.

In view of ancestral relationship, I dared not refuse the appointment wil was therofora obliged to accopt it. I have hold this appointment for three years and have comitted no

mistake.

Last year the inhabitants of 20 villagnu of Ch'ung-ling Lo established a 'Field Tax Office' which was opened and direc- ted by Yo-di, a deputy appointment by the present liai-chang Dib- triot kagistrate, Po Lin-shu; and of this Office I have banu publicly requested to take charge.

That now Ch'iu Hsia-min accuses me without any reason, of

must, disturbing local order, injures my roputation; axl therefore, raquast four fionour to obtain from Ch'iu Hsia-min the proof of my so disturbing local order,
